This episode features revenge on someone for animal cruelty which for many viewers invokes even more emotion then when humans are involved. It starts tragically showing 'Candy' the little girls dog dying in a doctors surgery. However the writers cleverly do not show the doctors neglect at not trying to save the dog at all, saving that for a flashback explanation later on when the girl finds out about it.
It has a lot of sad reflective scenes in it and a lot of crying. I think this episode is a bit thin on plot using these scenes to fill out the episode, relying on the emotional response from viewers to the anime.
When Enma visits the girl seeking revenge she again does all the presentation of the doll in her room without taking her to the other world. Enma shows her a vision of hell this time, this has the effect of wavering her determination to take revenge that way and results in her attempt to find evidence normally and expose him.
As it get to the point of her agreeing the contract the drama begins to speed up a little. The doctor mocks animals inability to understand words saying they should hurry up and die in front of the girl leaving her unable to find evidence and now desperately angry at his cruelty. This leaves her in the position similar to many other episodes of having no other way to achieve revenge than make the contract.
The assistants again help with the stalking of the doctor. I thought Hone appearing in front of his car causing him to crash and roll was a nice touch. The revenge was quite appropriate in this episode I thought, putting him exactly the same position as he cruelly treated the animals, giving a good sense of justice done to the viewer.
Like episodes before he is given the chance to confess his sins but instead confirms his evilness and contempt for animals. Again him saying it is not his fault is the trigger line before Enma sends him to hell, which is of course very similar to that of what Enma Ai and Hajime said after there tragic incidents. Is this just a coincidence or some cleverness by the writer?
